In a world that praises more—more revenue, more growth, more success—what if the real win is choosing enough? Here's a reminder that happiness doesn't always scale.

I was at physical therapy the other day, catching up with the doctor I’ve gotten to know pretty well over the past few months. He’s not just good at what he does, he’s intentional. He asks questions, listens carefully, and genuinely wants to know if what he's doing is helping. That kind of collaborative care is rare, and I don’t take it for granted.
During this last visit, our conversation drifted into a more personal space. He shared that sometimes he wonders if he made the right choice by staying small; one clinic, one employee. Other doctors at conferences will ask, sometimes almost accusingly, why he hasn’t scaled to six or eight locations like they have. It stings a bit, he admitted.
So I asked him a simple question: Are you happy?
